Data You Give Us Directly
Search Queries
A name or location entered in a search tool is sent to the outside provider that operates it. That provider processes the query and supplies its results. We do not retain or log those search terms on our systems.
Messages and Contact Submissions
An email may be kept long enough to answer and maintain the related correspondence. It remains within our organization unless disclosure is required by law.
Data We Gather Automatically
When a page loads, the servers may automatically receive basic technical and usage details:
- Page-view dates and times
- The referring website, when one is available
- Pages viewed and approximate visit length
- Device type and operating system
- Browser type and version
- The device's assigned IP address
Cookies and Analytics
Cookies are small files stored on a device. They and analytics services help combine traffic data, such as popular pages and common exit points. Browser controls can block cookies, although doing so may change how some features behave.
What We Do With This Data
- Finding and correcting technical problems
- Maintaining performance and availability
- Routing search requests to the selected partner
- Measuring which content is useful or needs revision
- Displaying advertising that may reflect visitor interests
No Criminal-Record Data on File
We do not host, assemble, or sell a database of personal criminal records. The published material identifies how to request York County records from YPSO, court clerks, VSP CARE, and the Virginia Sex Offender and Crimes Against Minors Registry. Visitor data is not compiled into a third-party criminal record or consumer report, and this website is not a consumer reporting agency under the FCRA.
Third-Party Search Partners
Outside companies operate the search boxes. Their privacy terms, retention rules, and sharing practices apply to information submitted there. Review the provider's policy before running a query because those practices are outside our control.
Links to Other Websites
Throughout the site we link to sheriff's office pages, court portals, state agency sites, legal aid groups, and third-party search tools. Clicking any of those links takes you off our site. At that point, their privacy policy governs your visit. Read it before sharing any personal details.
Certain advertising partners may track your activity across sites to show targeted ads. That tracking runs on their systems, not ours.
Who Might See Your Data
We do not sell personal data. Some information may end up with:
- Search partners that handle queries you run on our site
- Analytics services we use to track traffic and performance
- Ad networks that place ads on our pages
- Law enforcement or government bodies when a valid legal order requires it
How We Protect Your Data
We follow standard security practices to safeguard the data we collect. But nothing connected to the internet is bulletproof. We do what we can to keep your information secure, though we cannot promise a breach will never happen.
Users Under 18
This site is meant for adults. We do not knowingly gather personal information from anyone under 18. If you think a minor has shared data with us, reach out and we'll delete it right away.
Your Data Rights
Rights may vary by residence and by whether a law applies to the operator or request. The Virginia Consumer Data Protection Act, Virginia Code § 59.1-575 et seq., provides qualifying Virginia consumers with specific rights. Requests may include:
- Opting out of covered processing where the law provides that choice
- Requesting deletion of eligible personal data
- Seeking correction of inaccurate information
- Asking to access eligible information held about you
Updates to This Policy
This policy may be revised. Any replacement will be posted here with its new effective date, so visitors should review the page periodically.
